Dr. Mehak Mufti, Dr. Yusra Amin, Dr. Nabeela

Background: The use of smart phones and smart watches has increased significantly over the last several years and they are now utilized in practically every area of life including medical education and healthcare. They have the potential to enhance health in everyday life through their capacity to self-monitor one's own activities, receive feedback based on activity, perform in-situ surveys to identify patterns of behavior, and enable two-way contact with family members and healthcare practitioners. There are more than 13,000 health-related smart phone applications that offer significant advantages to medical practitioners and also provide useful tools for ongoing education and better patient care. Aims and Objectives: 1.To evaluate the knowledge, attitude and practice of students and staff of GMC Anantnag regarding the use of smart watches and smart phone-based applications in enhancing healthcare and lifestyle. 2. To evaluate the utility of smart watches in enhancing the medical education. Material and Methods: The study used a cross-sectional survey design, giving doctors, medical and paramedical students and other staff members at GMC Anantnag a specially designed questionnaire with eighteen items over the course of a year. In order to guarantee full participation, the questionnaire—which addressed the use of smart gadgets for health and lifestyle adjustment as well as their function in medical education—was sent offline. Anonymized data was gathered, trends in device usage were examined, and ethical approval was secured to guarantee that each participant gave their informed consent. Results: Out of the total 650 participants, 500 returned the completely filled questionnaire giving a response rate of 76.9%. Among these 500 participants 52.4% were males and 47.6% were females. 99.2% of the participants used smart phones and 36.3% used smart watches for medical related applications. Conclusion: Our study's findings showed that a sizable portion of participants utilize smart watches and phones for medical education and lifestyle improvement. The increasing use of digital technology in healthcare and personal well-being is highlighted by these findings.
