To evaluate proportion of women accepting PPIUCD amongst the woman undergoing vaginal or cesarean delivery

Background: The present study was conducted for evaluating the proportion of women accepting PPIUCD amongst the woman undergoing vaginal or cesarean delivery. Materials & methods: A total of 100 patients were enrolled. Keeping view of availability and feasibility of participants, a Non probability consecutive sampling technique was adopted. Data was collected using self-structured proforma which consisted of detailed history, thorough examination, investigation and result.All antenatal Women coming to IPD were counseled for PPIUCD. Also, those who are admitted directly were counseled before delivery. The women who didn’t agreed for insertion of PPIUCD---the cause for non-acceptance were be mentioned.Data were compiled and analyzed using suitable statistical software and appropriate test of significance was applied. Results: The acceptance rate of PPIUCD in the present study was 41%.Out of 100 women accepting PPIUCD, one third i.e (33.33%) were graduates. Acceptance of PPIUCD was more in literate women and least in illiterate women. Out of 100 women, 403 percent of the women consented for PPIUCD insertion because of its long term contraceptive effect which acted as a major decisive factor while,107 percent of the women accepted it because of its safety factor. 14 percent and 12 percent of the women accepted it because of its non-hormonal nature and its ease of reversibility respectively. Conclusion: Insertion of IUCD in immediate postpartum period is an effective, safe, and convenient contraceptive intervention in both cesarean and vaginal deliveries.
