Skin diseases are common all over the globe but its pattern varies geographically and in different states of the same country. Skin lesions can be infectious or non-infectious. Non-infectious lesions cover a wide spectrum of pathological conditions, ranging from congenital dermatoses to bullous lesions and skin neoplasms.4Clinical presentation can be common for various skin lesions but different histopathlogical pictures will be present which definitely require a histopathological examination for confirmation as treatment varies for different lesions. Materials and methods: This study is a retrospective study carried out on stained slides of skinbiopsies received in the histopathology section of the Department of Pathology, RIMS Raichur over a period of 3 years from January 2020-december 2022.The Aims and objectives : (1) To sudy the prevalence of various non-neoplastic skin lesions (2) To sudy the histopathological features various non neoplastic skin lesions. Results : Total number of cases included in present study were 132. Inflammatory skin lesions with 38 cases(29%) were the most common histopathological lesions followed by Granulomatous lesions with 34 cases(26%) ,epidermal inclusion cysts with 26 cases(20%) , and vesiculobullous lesions with 18 cases(13.6%).Collagen vascular disorders comprised 12 cases(9%).Among inflammatory lesions non specific dermatitis was the most common condition .Hansen’s disease was diagnosed in 33cases comprising 25 %. Among the subtypes of Hansens disease, Lepromatous leprosy ( 29.4% )was the most frequently diagnosed entityVesiculobullous lesions were diagnosed in 18cases comprising 13.6%.Collagen vascular disorders comprised 12 cases(9%), mophea was most frequently found lesion(33.3%) among collagen vascular disorders. Conclusion : Majority of non neoplastic skin lesions were seen in the age group 21-30years of age group with predominance in males. Most common lesions were inflammatory lesions followed by granumatous lesions(Hansen’s disease) and cutaneous cysts. Histopathological examination of skin biopsies remain gold standard in the diagnosis, prognosis and management of non neoplastic skin lesions owing to their varied clinical presentation and histomorphology. |
